Hufflepuff Common Room

Welcome, Hufflepuffs, to our Tumblr common room! We are CharmRose113 (Megan) , ChaserGlow57 (Taylor) and SnidgetOak141 ( Ffion) three of your proud prefects, AKA blog moderators. Feel free to submit posts; this is a place for us to share.

"I've noticed that when I brew a potion successfully that the house points do not change at all. For example, we were at 37,504 & I finished a 9 point potion. I looked at the points & they didn't change. I refreshed & looked again. There was a 1 point difference-I refreshed again & it went up another point. At the same time I was asking about this on the boards, someone else said they earned 9 points. I refreshed again-same result. Do you know if there is a delay & how long?" -gloriatraveler

The house points aren’t determined by each individual point, but rather some sort of average.

"Hi, do you know if potions is still messing up for people, because everytime I go on my potions it says I am brewing a potion and if I click on it it starts a potion from scratch and if I complete the potion at the end it gives me no points and takes me back to saying my potion is brewing even if I wait. I have no clue how to stop it doing that or what to do because it is really ruining Pottermore for me and making me want to delete my account seen as it won't let me do anything :( please help!" -Anonymous

Try this (it’s what has worked for me):

Open the potion, complete step one, and DO NOT click “come back later”. Click ANY other link on the page. When I do that, I don’t experience the glitch. If that doesn’t work, try clearing your cookies. Let me know how this works for you!

"I keep practicing the cure for boils potion but when I add 6 snake fangs to the mortar it doesn't cross it off in my recipe book D:" -Anonymous

Do you end up failing the potion? Or does it just not cross off in your recipe book so you freak out and start over? If it just doesn’t cross off and you’re not actually seeing the potion through, I would consider trying to complete it, because it often neglects to cross steps off for me as well, but the potion actually brews perfectly.

Books to Collect

Hey Puffs! I noticed that in my trunk I am missing a book. I have gone through the story twice more and can’t seem to find it. Anyone know whre I can find a list of books we are saposed to find so I can narrow down to what I am missing?

- FangCastle22

[Message from the Prefect: There are only 15 books that go to your trunk. There are 16 spaces in there, so it will look like you are missing one… but you aren’t! Don’t worry.]

"Hey :) ive collected ten chocolate frog cards so far : Morgana, Albus Dumbledore, Paracelsus, Salazar Slytherin, Hengist of Woodcroft, Merlin, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, Cliodna, and Godric Gryffindor. Do you have any idea who the 11th card is? or where i could find it? after all us hufflepuffs are great finders ;) btw i found your advice for the potions really helpful, thank you :) (this is SilverThorn5 btw (: )" -curlyandcurvy

Chapter 8, moment 1 (“Harry’s Early Days at Hogwarts”) - zoom in once and click the top stair just below the landing. It will disappear, and the Circe card will appear.

Happy finding!

Sleeping Draught: standard_ingredient…

First off, I just want to say that I’m proud to be a badger. =)

Anyway, Pottermore has been pretty fun (though I feel that the lack of messaging and overall communication will ultimately limit it from being great), but I think I’m running into one of the beta glitches when brewing. I’d really like to help my fellow badgers out… so… does anyone know why I occasionally get this message while brewing sleeping draughts:

“Sorry, this potion was not brewed correctly because you have put the standard_ingredient in the wrong container.”

Any help is appreciated. Let’s go Hufflepuffs!

HowlPatronus83

[Message from the Prefect: Proud badgers unite! As you thought, standard_ingredient is a common glitch - try not to worry about it, even though it’s very frustrating. Take solace in the fact that you actually brewed the potion correctly and Pottermore’s just being a butthead.]

"I need help. I don't want to brew anymore because I've been trying for three days now and I haven't brewed anything and I feel like I'm bringing us down considering that we're at the last position right now. Any tips on how to brew right? god, this is really frustrating. T_T" -fritziejoyce

Before you get too hard on yourself, you should know that some people are experiencing debilitating glitches with ALL of the potions, so it might just be that.

If you want to try again, though, you could take a look at the tutorials page for help.

Good luck! And don’t let yourself get down over potions, okay? You’ll get better!

"My potions page hasn't worked for three days now. It says that my potion is 100% and needs my attention, however when I click on it, pottermore brings me back to the original potion screen and makes me start all over again. Do you know how to fix this problem? I really want to be able to make potions to earn house points! Thanks for the help!" -blainewarblerhummelanderson

That’s a tough one! A couple questions…

First, have you tried completing the first half of the potion? That was happening to me a couple of weeks ago, and I just completed the first half and then clicked the Pottermore logo at the top instead of the “come back later” link - for some reason, that link seems to have a glitch. If you haven’t, try that.

Second, have you tried clearing your cookies?

"do you have any info on whats being done about all the cheating going on? :)" -youngsummersyouth-deactivated20

The time cheat has been dealt with! FINALLY! Regarding the members of other houses using their second accounts (which I personally disapprove of to begin with - why would you need two accounts?) to join rival houses, blow up cauldrons, and lose points for the competition, I don’t know what the moderators plan to do to stop it. It’s a difficult situation, because I guess it’s hard to know who’s a cheater and who’s just reeeeeally bad at potions.

"What's the time cheat? o_o" -5ubway

The time cheat was a method of brewing where one would turn the clock on his or her computer forward when the “come back in ___ minutes” message popped after the first half of a brew. This would “turn time forward” and allow the user to complete the potion in only around 5 minutes as opposed to 80-100.

Very unfair, very unsportsmanlike are those who used it. I’m so glad I only saw mention of using it once on our common room wall on Pottermore, and that the user was immediately shut down by fellow Puffs.

"i just did antidote to common poisons and it's actually 5 points!" -hannah---rose

It’s 7, don’t worry. For some reason, it still says 5 in the message bubble that pops up right after you finish brewing for ALL of the potions, but if you check your notifications, you’ll see it says you were awarded 7.

About Potions…..

I don’t know if this has been brought up but if you know something has messed up in your potion, just keep stop till time has run out. That way you can get 1 point for trying….if you make it wrong till when your cauldron melts that is when you lose points….. It what I do if I forget a step or know something is not working.

[Message from the Prefect: You can also click the back button and start over.]

"Hi, there! Are other Hufflepuffs given permission to post rather than just submit stuff? I think it'd be neat for each person to contribute that way and voice out their thoughts. :) Just wondering." -Anonymous

Hey, hey! I did think of that… the only issue being proper moderation. I do want this to be a fairly all-ages page, so I want to ensure appropriateness and good spirit. I’ll definitely start adding people to the blog members, though, as I see who becomes active in the submissions, because I do want this to be an inclusive, interactive blog rather than the kind where I have the sole capability to interact with the followers.
